I've decided to join up too. Even though it's spring already. The thread can be found here:

I'm already at 359 points because I read this news article:

I really don't understand people. Somehow, I'm not sure I'll have any points left come this time next spring...

Hi there. I tried sending you an e-mail but it wouldn't get to you, so I'm going to answer you here. :

Hi there. Great to hear from you.

To begin with, there are lots of different ways to start, from very simple (with virtually no tools), to full on "hammer and tongs". It just depends on your budget and your enthusiasm. I can provide you with a basic kit for around $50 + postage, including all the instructions you will need to begin your journey into knife making. The kit includes a blade, a handle and a guard, and is a great way to get started. It gives you the opportunity to have a go with something small, and then from there you can decide if it really is for you or not. If it is, I can then take you on an advanced knife making course, that will teach you the advanced knowledge you will need if you want to try and compete with the pros.

I train in all three styles that make up medieval combat, so I have a good sense of what works in a sword and what doesn't.

Hope this helps you out.

Ray.
